Concrete Mix Design Holds Water at Fulham Pools
High Level Performance from PUDLO Admixture System
Concrete admixture systems and sealants from David Ball Group have played a vital water-retaining role in AMEC's Fulham Pools design and build contract for leisure centre specialists Holmes Place plc who will manage the impressive new facility on behalf of the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The Fulham Pools leisure centre contains a 25 metre 8-lane, ASA certificated, competition pool with a viewing gallery for approximately 250 people, a 25 metre 6-lane fitness pool and a teaching pool. The concrete mix design for the floor, walls, surface slabs and undercroft of the pool tanks utilised the David Ball Group waterproofing admixture, PUDLO CWP to provide the required reduction of permeability. In conjunction with PUDLO CWP, hDR Waterstop, a David Ball Group sealant that expands on contact with water, was utilised to seal construction joints in the concrete. The final high level of water-retaining performance was achieved through the application of the group's waterproof mastic, Instaflex PU25, to the perimeter slabs and undercroft.
Both AMEC and David Ball Group were pleased with the way the contract progressed.
Commenting on the final outcome AMEC Project Manager Paul Freeman said "An important factor in our decision to use David Ball Group for the critical waterproofing elements of the contract was the warranty they were prepared to offer. Our client was happy to go ahead on this basis and, in practice, we found the David Ball Group system to be very cost-effective. We were satisfied with both the performance of PUDLO CWP as the waterproofing admixture and hDR Waterstop in the construction joints and the assistance we obtained from the company with joint design."
